SUMMARY

First Aid course is designed to cover medical techniques considered to be within the responsibility of the occupational first aid attendance providing emergency care in industry

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the course, trainees will be expected to:
Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
• Be able to assess an incident
• Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty
• Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking
• Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock
• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries

ASSESSMENT AND CERTIFICATION

Assessment is through a combination of practical demonstration of competence in emergency rst aid procedures and a test of underpinning knowledge through questioning and/or professional discussion. Trainees’ results are reported as a grade (Pass or Fail) for the qualication as a whole. A certicate of completion is awarded to trainees from British Safety Council.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This qualification is ideal for those already working or preparing to work within industry wishing to become a First Aider in the workplace for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

PREREQUISITES

In order to register on to this qualication, trainees are required to meet the following entry requirements:
• 16 years of age or above
• It is advised that trainees have a level of literacy adequate to cope with the assessment.
